Roof Repairs at Murwillumbah Northern Rivers NSW

29/9/2014

Rencent roof repairs were carried out at this property in Murwillumbah house due various roof leaks through the home. The cause of the roof leaks were from two issues.

1. Due to cracked bedding and pointing and leaking tile clips.

Roofs repairs carried out:
Removd and replace 20x broken roof tiles
Removed and replaced all leaking tile clips with new moniar tile clips
Re-bedded and Re-pointed all ridge capping
Inserted weep holes into ridge capping
2. The guttering on the home was at the end of its lifespan and leaking.

We supplied and installed new Colorbond guttering to the entire roof line to fix the leaks and issues. We also installed Leaf Free gutter guard to stop any leaf litter getting into the gutters and blocking them.
At the  jobs completion we discovered a 3m python had decided to reside in our trailer, so that was a surprise when unloading it at the end of the job! It always unique working on rural properties, we have had goannas, alpacas and many snakes surprising us before!

Decromastic roofs are metal sheets that are manufactured to look like roof tiles. They are notorious for leaking and over time causing issues and damage to your home. We recommend to replace a decormastic roof with a Colorbond roof in most cases, you can read more about decromastic roofs here. If you want to see a replacement of a decromastic roof from start to finish click here to see a job we recently undertook at Eagle Heights in the Gold Coast Hinterland.

This week we undertook a roof replacement on a decromstic roof on the Gold Coast. The roof was initially metal and new battens and decromastic sheets had been laid over the top many years ago. This was common but bad practice in previous times, meaning we had to remove two roofs to then relay it with Colorbond steel.

You can see in the progress photos below the existing decromastic roof - removing the roof sheets to reveal battens and an iron roof underneath - we then laid new metal battens and sarking before installing the Colorbond roof sheets. The owner also changed the colour of the roof, choosing Ironstone from the Colorbond range which updated the home and gave it a more modern feel. You can read more about updating your homes street appeal and choosing a new roof colour here on our website.

We also replaced the guttering on the home and downpipes, so that the roof and gutters are now all new and comply with today's standards and best practice.

If you have any questions about a decromastic roof, your roofing options or what roofing material would best suit your roof then contact us today. We would be happy to assist and give yous some advice!

Colorbond roof replacement at Oxenford, Gold Coast QLD

Replacing an awning roof to stop roof leaks

This week we completed some roofing works at Oxenford on the Northern end of the Gold Coast.

The issue with this roof is that there was a gutter between the main house roof and the new awning roof. The gutter would fill up with water and backflow into the roof cavity in heavy rain, making a lot of internal damage. The roof sheets on the awning were Corrugated Colorbond and being a roof with minimal pitch, this was also hindering the water from running off the roof sheets, causing internal water damage.

The solution was to install new Trimclad sheeting which Metroll designs specifically for roofs with minimal pitch, as it allows more water run off. We also removed the gutter, replacing it with custom made flashings, so the water will now flow over the flashings and onto the Trimclad sheeting and off the edge of the roof - minimising and risk of water entering the roof cavity!

The colour of this roof is Colorbond's Cottage Green, Colorbond has also recently released six new colours which you can view here. If you have a metal roof and are experiencing roof leaks or any issues, call us today for a free roof inspection and assessment.

Replacing a box gutter at Burleigh Heads, QLD

Replacing a rusted box gutter

PictureRusted box gutter
A shop at Burleigh Heads on the Gold Coast had a rusted box gutter, which had rusted out, making the internal building open to rain and the outside elements. Being a business, it was important to get the roof fixed and water tight, so they could return to trade as normal. You can see in the photo the rust holes and large rusted sections. For this job, we replaced the box gutter with a custom gutter manufactured by Metroll.

You can see here a similar job we undertook recently at Underwood in Brisbane, that also had a rusted box gutter, allowing water to enter the roof cavity and cause internal water damage.

Since completing this job we have experienced a night of rain and the customer has confirmed that there is no further water entry and they are able to return to trade as normal. Another great outcome by the team!

If you are experiencing a roof leak, or suspect it is coming from rusted gutters, call us today on (07) 5598 6037 to book a free inspection and no obligation free quote.

Roof restoration and Gutter at Burleigh Waters, Gold Coast, QLD

8/8/2013

Last week we undertook a complete tile roof restoration, installed whirly birds and replaced guttering and downpipes to a home in Burleigh Waters on the Gold Coast, QLD.

The home owners wanted to update the look of their home and paint their roof in a contrasting colour to the brick. They decided to go a mid shad of grey, from Shieldcoat's roofing membrane range called 'Slate Grey'. They also wanted to improve the ventilation to their home, so we installed two whirly birds at the highest point in the roof to increase airflow and reduce moisture. The guttering and downpipes to the home were aged and had holes and rust appearing, so we replaced them with Metroll's Big M Gutter in the Colorbond colour 'Monument'.

The process of the roof restoration and gutter replacement was:
- Change broken roof tiles
- High pressure clean the entire roof area
- Repoint all ridge caps with flexible pointing mortar
- Install 2x whirly birds at the highest point of the roof to assist with ventilation
- Apply one coat of roofing primer
- Apply two coats of roofing membrane
- Paint the fascia to colour match the roof
- Remove the existing guttering and downpipes
- Replace the guttering and downpipes

We were thrilled with the results of the roof and thought the colour really achieved the contrast the owners were looking for.
